This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:25 scale from the American brand AMT captures the International Harvester Scout II, the off-road vehicle of the second generation of the Scout line. According to the maker the tooling is based on the form of the 1977 model year, that is on a later phase of production, when the vehicle already had its definitive shape. According to the maker the set includes chrome-plated parts and a V8 engine with a transmission, so the model also offers a look under the hood, not just a closed body.
The Scout II was produced by the International Harvester company from 1971 to 1980 and with it the firm followed on from the original Scout of the end of the 1950s. Compared with the first vehicle it received a longer wheelbase, a more comfortable cab and a tougher chassis, and it was offered both with a fixed roof and in the version with a removable rear section. On the American market it stood against the Ford Bronco and the Chevrolet Blazer and to this day it is one of the classics of utility off-road vehicles. Besides civilian customers it was widely used by farms, forestry services and rescue services.
A body with pronounced edges calls for careful cleaning up of the mold seams, because every unevenness shows under a gloss. Paint and fit out the engine bay before the body sits down on the chassis. For large surfaces spraying with an airbrush over a base coat works well; mask the chrome-plated parts and leave them untouched. Tires hold better once you degrease them, and a patina of dust and mud suits an off-road vehicle better than a factory gloss.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
