The Lotus Type 79 is one of the Formula 1 cars of the end of the seventies on which downforce was sought above all through the shaping of the underbody and the sidepods. The mechanicals were subordinated to the aerodynamics as well: the suspension was arranged so as to interfere as little as possible with the flow under the car. That is exactly why it is worth paying extra attention to the suspension members on a model, because they are clearly visible on the car.
The set replaces the parts of the front as well as the rear suspension of a model in 1:20 scale and is cut for the Hasegawa kit carried under the designation SP498. Replacement suspension members come in useful where the arms and the links are to be delicate and yet straight. The exact list of parts and the assembly procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions; go through them before you take the original parts out of the kit.
Put the suspension together on a flat surface and keep checking that the car rests on all four wheels. First assemble the whole thing dry, level up the symmetry of the two sides and only then glue. Parts that are not made of polystyrene hold with super glue; apply it in minute drops so that it does not run into the joints. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down carefully. Wash and degrease the surface before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the thin arms.
The set is aimed at a modeler who builds an open-wheel Formula 1 car and wants the suspension accurate and thin. It calls for tweezers, a sharp blade and patience in leveling up the geometry. This is an accessory for a kit; the model itself, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
