A set of masking templates in 1:32 scale intended for spraying the camouflage scheme and the markings onto a model of the Messerschmitt Me 163B. It is neither a model of the aircraft nor a kit: it is an accessory used while painting an airframe that has already been built. The exact contents of the package, the number of sheets and the schemes covered are stated on the box.
The Me 163B Komet was a rocket-powered interceptor of tailless layout with a swept wing, developed in Germany at the end of the Second World War. It took off from a jettisonable wheeled dolly and landed on a retractable skid, and it was powered by a liquid-fuel rocket motor with a very short running time. Its small dimensions, the absence of a horizontal tail surface and the deep spine give the model an unusual silhouette on which the boundaries of the camouflage fields are clearly visible, and that is exactly where it pays to work with a mask rather than freehand.
Stick the templates only onto a perfectly cured, degreased and smooth finish; a mask will print itself into fresh paint and can tear it off when removed. Lay it down dry first, check the alignment with the panel lines and only then press the edges down: the commonest cause of paint running underneath is an edge not pressed down in a recess or on a rounded transition. Spray in several thin layers and aim perpendicular to the mask, not at a sharp angle. Take the mask off as soon as possible after the paint has dried, slowly and at an obtuse angle; remove any adhesive residue with a mild alcohol cleaner that you test on a hidden spot first.
The accessory is supplied without a model, paints or glue. Check the fit with your kit before buying.
