A sizable injection-molded plastic kit of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc fighter in the premium 1:32 scale from the Japanese company Tamiya. It is a large, superbly executed kit with a finely rendered Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine (including the oil tanks and the supercharger) and removable engine cowlings, and with a faithfully reproduced c-type wing with two 20 mm cannons and four machine guns. The rudder, the elevators and the ailerons are movable and the flaps can be shown lowered. Photo-etched parts for the fine details are also included.
The Spitfire Mk.IX was the development answer to the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190: the proven Spitfire airframe was given the more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin 60 series engine with a two-stage supercharger, which restored the British fighter's advantage at altitude. The Mk.IXc version with the universal c-type wing was among the most widespread and most successful Spitfire variants of all; it flew with RAF units and Allied air forces from 1942 to the end of the war. Excellent handling and high speed were characteristic of it.
A large, detailed kit rewards care. Paint and assemble the engine and the cockpit before you close the fuselage and fit the cowlings, so that the detailed Merlin under the removable panels stands out. Bond the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and the plastic joints with liquid cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting and spray the period British camouflage (upper surfaces and a light underside) with an airbrush; masks, enclosed or your own, will help with sharp glazing frames. Bring out the panel lines with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
