The subject is a 1964 Ford Galaxie rebuilt into a track special of the modified stocker class, that is into a machine for American ovals, not the road version of the car.
In the first half of the 1960s the Galaxie was Ford's flagship among full-size cars, and with big-block V8s it made its mark in racing as well. The 1964 model year received a more restrained roofline, which helped the car to better airflow on fast ovals. Modified stockers were created out of ordinary coupes: a roll cage and a single seat went inside, the wheels were widened, and the body lost its trim and carried starting numbers and sponsors' lettering instead. They were the backbone of short-oval racing.
Start with the chassis and the engine, because you will no longer reach them once the body is on. Cut the parts from the sprues with a knife and sand the marks left by the gates, so that they do not show under the paint. Spray the body over a primer; racing finishes come out best in gloss, and decals settle better over a gloss coat. The interior of a racing car will take a rougher surface than a road model: matte shades, dark highlighting of the cage and light weathering on the floor will all help the scene. Leave the wheels and tires matte, and the chrome polished.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
