An add-on canvas top for a model of the German Sd.Kfz.251 half-track in the Ausf.C version, 1:35 scale. Made for the Academy kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory representing the canvas top that crews stretched over the open fighting compartment of the Sd.Kfz.251 in the Ausf.C version. It is fitted to a kit in 1:35 scale and replaces a solution that in the box tends to be only suggested. The target kit is Academy.
The Sd.Kfz.251 was open at the top, which made it easier for the crew to get in and to shoot, but it gave them no protection from the weather. The canvas on its hoops was therefore unrolled on the move, in rain and in winter; in period photographs we see it both rolled up at the sides of the body and stretched over the whole compartment. The Ausf.C version can be told by the one-piece frontal armor of the engine compartment and by the tool boxes on the fenders. Vehicles of these series were used by reconnaissance, engineer and medical units, and the main way in remained the rear double doors, above which the canvas ended.
Try the part dry in the body first, because it takes up room where equipment or figures would otherwise go. The folds of the fabric will come into their own when you add a thin filter after the base coat and pick the edges out with a dry brush. Canvas usually had a different shade from the armor, so do not be afraid of a small difference in tone.
The carrier is not part of the delivery: obtain the base model, glue and paints separately.
