Zvezda 1:35 German Infantry Eastern Front Winter 1941-1942: four German infantrymen in winter equipment from the Eastern Front, as the first winter of the war caught them outside Moscow.
Responsibility details are not available.
This figure set in 1:35 scale captures four soldiers of the German infantry during the winter of 1941 to 1942 on the Eastern Front. The figures are dressed in the improvised winter equipment typical of the first Russian winter, when Wehrmacht units faced the frost without sufficient kit. The set is a natural companion to winter dioramas with tanks, guns and rear-area vehicles.
After the advance on Moscow was stopped at the end of 1941, the German infantry went over to the defense in conditions it was not prepared for. The soldiers helped themselves with layers of blankets, captured items of clothing and white oversuits, supply broke down and the frost put men out of action faster than the fighting did. It is precisely this stage, from December 1941 to the spring thaw, that the figures faithfully recall, so they suit scenes of defensive positions and of withdrawal fighting alike.
The basis is field gray complemented by dirty white capes; the winter camouflage comes out well after light soiling with brownish pigments. You will imitate snow on the boots and the hems of the coats with a texture paste. It pays to work with the contrast between frozen skin and dark fittings, which gives a winter scene an authentic rawness.
