A single figure of a German infantryman in winter dress, worked in 1:35 scale, that is in the same scale as ordinary armor kits. The figure is intended to complete a finished model or to go into a diorama with a winter setting. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
In 1:35 scale an adult figure stands about five centimeters tall, a size at which the features of the face and the fall of the cloth are already legible but there is still no room for exaggerated contrast. A figure gives a model of equipment a scale reference, so it works well to place it in some relation to the vehicle: beside the hull, on the track or at a natural walking distance. For a winter scene the rule is that the snow and mud on the base should follow on from the same effects on the boots and the lower hem of the clothing, otherwise the figure looks as if it had merely been stood in the scene.
Before starting, wash the figure in lukewarm water with detergent and spray a thin coat of primer, on which you will first see the real shape of the surface and any bubbles to fill. Skin is built up in layers: a base tone, a darker shadow into the eye sockets and under the chin, a lighter tone on the nose, the cheekbones and the back of the hand. Winter clothing takes muted and rather diffused transitions, because thick cloth does not hold crisp folds. Oil paints or acrylics with an extended drying time suit the job, as they let the transitions be blended. Keep the contrast lower than it might seem; the scale will emphasize it by itself.
