1:35 House (Africa)base

The real subject

The part captures a dwelling structure of an African subject worked up on a ground of its own. Architecture of this type is rewarding for a diorama: simple masses and large wall surfaces let color, dust and shadows stand out, so the scene looks rich even with a small number of accessories. The 1:35 scale is the most widespread size of military hardware models and figures, so the house matches the vast majority of sets built in this scale.

What the part offers

This is a scenic item of its own, not a finished diorama. The ground marks out the area of the display and holds the structure upright, so the work of making a base falls away.

• 1:35 scale, matching ordinary sets of figures and hardware
• a house of an African subject worked up together with a ground
• a surface ready for painting with ordinary modeling paints
• usable as a whole small scene and as part of a more extensive composition
• freely combinable with other diorama accessories from the same line

Building and painting tips

Before painting, clear the dust and grease off the surface and let it dry completely. A unifying base coat will improve coverage and bring out the structure of the building. African structures have proved themselves built from light sand and ocher tones, which are then played out with a dark glaze into the joints and a lighter dry brush on the edges. You create the dusting at the foot of the masonry with pigments. Choose a suitable glue according to the material of the part, and for the particular procedure follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Who it is for

The set will please modelers who want to place a vehicle or a group of figures in a setting instead of on a bare board, and more experienced diorama builders too, for whom it will serve as a building block of a larger scene. Paints, pigments and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
