A photo-etched set from Voyager Model brings stowage boxes for a model of the Type 69-II medium tank in 1:35 scale in Iraqi service. The package does not hold a model of the vehicle; this is an accessory for the Takom 2054 kit, which you already have. The fundamental advantage of photo-etched parts is that a box is hollow and has a thin wall, so it can even be built with the lid open.
The Type 69-II is a Chinese medium tank stemming from the design line of the Soviet T-54 and its Chinese version. It carries a 100 mm gun, has a classic domed turret and the low silhouette typical of this family of vehicles. Vehicles of this type reached the armament of the Iraqi army in greater numbers, where a series of local modifications supplemented them. Boxes and baskets for equipment were omnipresent on these tanks, because the crews stowed everything that did not fit inside outside the hull.
Folded boxes can be joined in two ways. Cyanoacrylate is quicker, but soft soldering gives a stronger and cleaner result: you apply solder with a low melting point from the reverse, the joint is invisible and the box will stand up even to sanding. If you are not trying soldering, at least secure the corners with gel glue, so that the box has stiffness. An open box is worth supplementing with a load, a tarpaulin or a rolled groundsheet, while suggesting the inside with a dark shadow is enough. Once the paint has been scraped on the edges and a fine coat of rust applied, the box will fit in with the surrounding surface of the vehicle.
The set is an accessory, not a model. It does not hold the kit of the vehicle, glue or paints.
