Star Decals 1:35 ISAF 3 is a decal set for marking French units in Afghanistan and their wheeled armored vehicles VAB and Panhard.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal set in 1:35 scale from Star Decals. It is aimed at the French contingent in Afghanistan and at its wheeled armored vehicles VAB and Panhard. It is an accessory to a finished model, not a kit.
ISAF was the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, established at the end of 2001 and led by NATO from 2003. The French contingent was among the larger European ones and it leaned on wheeled hardware, which stands up to long moves over dusty roads. The VAB is a four-wheeled armored personnel carrier of the French army with an amphibious capability, serving in many specialized versions. The Panhard name stands behind light armored vehicles of the kind used in Afghanistan for reconnaissance, escort and liaison. Besides national insignia, the vehicles of the international force carried the shared recognition markings of the mission.
Modern French hardware tends to be in a sand or green shade and its plate is smooth, so markings seat without trouble. Watch the sides of the VAB, though, where a decal easily cracks over ribbing and step plates. Lay the gloss varnish only on the places concerned, seat the decal with a setting solution and once it has dried carefully nick the places over sharp edges with a sharp scalpel. A final matte varnish will even the surface out and prepare it for the fine dust that belongs to the Afghan setting.
The package holds only decals; the model and the paints are not included.
