About product

M19 Diamond tank transporter, British combinations in Northwest Europe, 1:35

A set of Star Decals markings in 1:35 scale for the heavy M19 Diamond tank transporter combination. According to the name it concerns the British vehicles in Northwest Europe, and in the numbered range devoted to this combination it is the third set.

What equipment the markings belong to

The M19 was a combination for carrying tanks: a powerful three-axle Diamond T tractor with a winch and a lowboy semi-trailer to go with it. The British army received it from American production and deployed it wherever tanks under their own power would have worn out their tracks and broken up the roadway for nothing: on moves into the deployment area, on the evacuation of damaged vehicles from the battlefield and on carrying captured equipment to the rear. In Northwest Europe that meant runs from the Normandy bridgehead through Belgium and the Netherlands all the way to the Rhine, over crowded roads and makeshift repaired bridges.

Usage tips

Both the cab and the semi-trailer offer large flat surfaces where the markings will stand out, but where every inaccuracy shows as well. Measure the position out on both sides of the vehicle, then, so that the numbers are not a good bit higher on one side. Heavy truck combinations are rewarding for a patina: a deposit of dust on the fenders, wear on the steps, oil traces on the frame of the semi-trailer and a scuffed edge to the ramps.

Who the set is for

  • builders of rear-area and transport equipment, not just fighting vehicles
  • a diorama with the loading or the evacuation of a damaged tank
  • anyone interested in the British units in Northwest Europe in 1944 and 1945
  • modelers who want recognizable markings on a large vehicle

The package holds only the markings; the combination itself and paints are not included.
