The set contains two MG 3 machine guns in 1:35 scale in the variant intended for the support of an infantry squad. It is not a kit of a vehicle or a figure but a standalone accessory with which coarser parts from base kits are replaced or a diorama is fitted out.
The MG 3 is a general-purpose machine gun of 7.62 mm caliber adopted by the Bundeswehr and by a number of other armies. In design it follows on from the German machine gun of the Second World War, from which it is told at first glance by details of the barrel shroud and the mountings. It is used in two basic roles: as a weapon on a vehicle mount and as support for an infantry squad, when it rests on a bipod. This set matches the second of these; the variant for mounting on a vehicle is a separate item.
Clean the parts, roughen the joint surfaces and glue with cyanoacrylate glue. The weapons are easier to paint on their own and only then placed with a figure or on a model — otherwise it is hard to reach the shadows under the barrel shroud. The basis is a dark shade, and on the edges a restrained drybrush or a graphite pencil, which imitates burnished metal well. Keep the sheen in check, as a matte surface looks more convincing. We recommend fitting the bipod only after painting, so that it stays legible.
The set is an accessory, not a model. It is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
