Star Decals 1:35 for modern African conflicts, relating, according to the name, to Somaliland, Angola, the South African armed forces, Ethiopia and the African Union.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of decals in 1:35 scale with markings relating to Somaliland, Angola, the South African armed forces, Ethiopia and the African Union. This is an accessory to a finished model, not a kit.
The set brings together themes connected by nothing other than the continent and the period. Angola went through a long civil war with a large share of equipment of Eastern manufacture; the South African armed forces, by contrast, built on a design school of their own of mine-resistant wheeled vehicles; Ethiopia and the area of Somaliland are tied to the fighting in the Horn of Africa; and the African Union stands for the more recent peacekeeping and stabilization missions. Each of these settings has a different custom in what is painted on a vehicle and how prominently, from numbers that are all but invisible to large lettering and mission insignia.
African theaters mean strong sun and omnipresent dust, so sharp, intensely white markings look alien on a model. It helps, once the decals have dried, to go over the area with a very dilute pale filter, which unifies the tone of the artwork with the surrounding paint, and to disturb the edges of the designs slightly. Apply the dust from the bottom upward and leave the markings partly covered: you will not lose legibility by it, but the model will gain scale.
The decals are supplied on their own. A model, paints and varnish are not included in the package.
