This item is not a kit of a vehicle but a narrowly focused detail accessory. The set of etched parts from the Czech brand Eduard serves to assemble the rear stowage box carried on the back of the hull by tracked vehicles of the Panther type and by the Jagdpanther tank destroyer, in 1:35 scale. Etched sheet makes it possible to keep the walls of the box at a scale thickness, which an injection-molded plastic part cannot do in principle. The exact number of parts, the way they assemble and what the set is meant for are given in the enclosed instructions.
The Panther was a German medium tank of the second half of the Second World War; the Jagdpanther was a tank destroyer built on its chassis, with a low enclosed superstructure instead of a rotating turret. Both vehicles carried a sheet-metal stowage box on the back of the hull for tools, spare parts and the crew's personal gear. The box was welded from thin sheet, had a hinged lid and was mounted on brackets; in service it often differed in shape and position according to the production batch and the unit. That is exactly why it is among the details that catch the eye on a model when they are made of thick plastic.
Cut the parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface. Fold the box in a photo-etch bending tool so that the edges come out straight and square; it helps to fold it dry first and check that the dimension works against the hull. It is bonded with a tiny drop of super glue applied with a piece of wire; on larger surfaces a slower gel version is worth using, so that there is time to line things up. Degrease the bare sheet and spray it with a primer. Finally, weathering pays off on this detail — a dark wash into the corners and a light rub of the edges with a dry brush bring out the texture of the sheet metal.
This is an accessory to the build, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
