Photo-etched fenders for the Chinese Type 59 main battle tank in 1:35 scale. They replace the thick plastic parts from the box with thin metal sheet.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Type 59 was the main battle tank of the Chinese army, derived from a Soviet design of the 1950s and built in enormous numbers over several decades. The fenders above the tracks are among the most heavily stressed parts on a tank: in service they bent, lifted and often only a piece of them was left, so it is precisely they that say a great deal about how a machine served.
The set brings photo-etched fenders in 1:35 scale. A photo-etched fret is a thin metal sheet from which the parts are cut out; compared with the parts from the box the fenders have a proportionally correct thickness that cannot be molded in plastic, and the edge therefore does not look clumsy close up.
Cut through the tabs joining the part to the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than with nippers, otherwise the edge will bend. Make the bends over a straight edge or in a bending tool and press along the whole length at once. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount; cement for plastic has no effect on metal. Metal takes more than plastic, so you can deliberately dent or lift the fenders and thereby suggest wear. Degrease the parts before painting and prime them with a primer suited to metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface and will rub off in handling.
The set is for modelers who build the Type 59 or related machines and want to take the model further where the thickness of the plastic shows most.
The package holds a photo-etched fret. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
