A diorama accessory from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. Unlike a solid board fence this is a picket fence: the vertical pickets are spaced with gaps, so the fence separates a plot but still lets you see through it. The heavier designation refers to the more robust, coarser pickets — the fence therefore looks rustic and utilitarian rather than like a delicate garden trellis. It suits farm buildings, livestock pens, yards and the edges of field tracks. It is not a model of a vehicle or of figures, but an element of a scene.
The parts are released from the sheet with a sharp scalpel and the remains of the tabs are sanded with fine abrasive paper. They are glued with white PVA wood glue, and gel cyanoacrylate proves itself on the small joints. The wood is absorbent, so it is painted with a wood stain or with heavily thinned acrylic glazes in coats. On a picket fence it works well when the shades of the individual pickets differ slightly and some stay darker, as though they had been replaced later. Bring out the edges with a dry brush, darken the gaps and the feet with a wash and add tufts of grass or weeds growing through the gaps.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The glue, the paints and any further scenery materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
