Replacement tracks from the Polish maker PANZER ART for models of the German Pz.Kpfw III and Pz.Kpfw IV tanks in 1:35 scale. Type 5b is the wider track form introduced in the second half of the war, when the rising weight of the vehicles called for a larger contact area. It is not a tank kit but a replacement for the tracks from the box.
The track is the most conspicuous moving part on a tank model and at the same time the one that is hardest to do well. Soft tracks from the box tend to have blunt detail, a visible mold seam and they cannot be made to sag convincingly. A replacement set solves both: the detail is sharp and the form lets the track be seated the way it really lies on the running gear. On German tanks, where the upper run of the track is visible along its whole length, that is a difference worth the work.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry. Cut the remains of the production sprues away with a new blade or a saw, never break them off, and protect your breathing when sanding resin. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the track separately, off the model, and fit it only after the running gear has been painted. The best result comes from a dark base, then dust pigments into the recesses and finally polishing the edges of the track with graphite or a metallic paint.
