What the set offers

A conversion set for a model of the small tracked tractor Renault UE in 1:35 scale, aimed at the early standard in Luftwaffe service. According to the name it is intended for the Tamiya kit, which with conversions is an essential detail: the parts are shaped for a particular model and on a product of another brand they need not seat. The extent of the set, that is which parts of the kit are removed and what replaces them, is given in the manufacturer's instructions.

The real subject

The Renault UE is a French small tracked tractor of the 1930s that carried ammunition and towed a light load. After 1940 a large part of these vehicles fell into German hands and went on serving; in German designation they carried a suffix in brackets that referred to the French origin of the captured equipment. The early and the later standard differ from one another in modifications to the body, which is why the sets are offered in two versions.

Procedure and gluing

• first go through the instructions and find the places where the kit is cut into
• seat the parts dry and only then reach for the glue
• the parts are not from the injected polystyrene of the kit; they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue
• cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest away
• before painting, wash and degrease, then go over with a base that evens out the difference in materials
