This item is neither a building nor a model of equipment, but building material for a diorama. It brings smooth roofing in 1:35 scale, with which to cover the roof of a building of your own, repair a damaged little house or suggest a heap of tiles stacked by a wall.
On a diorama building the roof is the surface the viewer sees first, because he looks at the scene from above. A flat, uniformly painted area therefore brings a whole building down, even if the facade were perfect. Individual tiles, on the contrary, give the surface rhythm, cast small shadows and make the most valuable thing possible – letting a few pieces be missing, so that the roof timbers can be seen.
Work from the eaves upward and let every higher row overlap the one below, exactly as on a real roof. Now and then set one tile slightly out of line or leave it out, because a perfectly even roof comes across as machine-made. Deal with the painting only after seating: a base tone, then differing shades on the individual pieces and at the end dark running in the joints. Suggest moss only at the eaves and in the valley, not over the whole area – a continuous green film looks more like a mistake.
