A plastic kit of a figure set depicting Soviet (Russian) assault infantry from the Second World War in 1:35 scale from Japanese manufacturer Tamiya. The set includes soldiers in dynamic action poses — typically riding a tank as air-landing troops and dismounting from it, running infantrymen, and a commander giving orders. Per the manufacturer, it includes twelve figures along with weapons and gear: PPSh-41 submachine guns, a Degtyaryov light machine gun, ammunition pouches, entrenching tools, canteens, and backpacks. This is a standalone figure set — a vehicle (tank) is not included in the package.
Soviet assault infantry were among the characteristic units of the Red Army in the Second World War. Soldiers often advanced as so-called tank desant riding directly on a tank's armor, and in close combat they relied on the proven PPSh-41 submachine gun with its drum magazine. The figures make a good complement to Soviet tanks and Eastern Front dioramas.
The figure parts are injection-molded plastic; glue them with thin plastic model cement and clean up the seams. When painting, separate the base colors for the uniform, gear, and skin tone (khaki and olive-drab shades for the Soviet uniform). Faces and hands stand out after applying a skin base coat, subtle shading, and light highlights. Overall depth is brought out by a dark wash into the fabric folds and dry-brushing on the edges. This isn't building a vehicle but working with small figures — thin brushes and patience pay off.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
