Four sheets of cut masks for the wheels of the Tiger I heavy tank in its early production form, 1:35 scale, for the kit by Dragon.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Tiger I heavy tank introduced into production an arrangement that gives modelers trouble to this day: the road wheels overlap one another in three layers. The early machines still had wheels with a rubber tire band; only the later batches moved to all-steel wheels with internal springing. That is why the early form is recognized at first glance and why painting the running gear on it takes longer than the whole rest of the hull. The tank came about as an answer to Soviet machines and its weight of over fifty tons meant there had to be a great many wheels.
Overlapping layers mean twice as many tires as on ordinary running gear, and each one has to be outlined separately. The set therefore brings an exceptionally high number of cutouts. The procedure is simple: assemble the layers dry, check the order, take them apart, spray the base, apply the discs and paint the rubber separately. Assembly should come only after that, otherwise not even a thin brush will reach the lower wheels. Mark the order of the layers in pencil on the inner side.
The numerals on the turret and the markings on the sides are applied to the finished hull, so they never meet the running gear. Dusting at the end ties the wheels to the tracks and softens the sharp transition. If a tire were scratched against a neighboring wheel while the layers were being assembled, it can be masked again, because the film holds with a weak adhesive and does not tear dry paint away when it is lifted.
Four sheets filled with discs. The envelope holds neither the kit nor paints, and the cut is aimed at the wheels of the subject named.
