Metal tracks for the Sd.Kfz. 251 (final pattern) are a metal set of link tracks in white metal in 1:35 scale from the Hungarian maker Friulmodel. This is not a kit of a vehicle but replacement tracks, which take the place of the plastic or rubber tracks from the box. The set is made up of individual cast links joined with thin wire, so the finished tracks are workable and sag naturally over the rollers.
The Sd.Kfz. 251 was a German medium half-track carrier of the Second World War, which served to carry infantry and in a range of specialized versions. The set reproduces the late, so-called final pattern of track with the characteristic shape of link used in later production.
First rid the links of burrs and casting remains, then thread them onto the wire one by one and join them into a continuous track. Metal tracks hold their shape well and faithfully follow the sag between the road wheels. Degrease the surface before painting and apply a base color suitable for metal, and only then shade and add rust and dust effects with pigments and washes. The greater weight of the metal helps the tracks seat realistically on the running gear.
This is a metal detail accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
