An injection-molded plastic kit of the American medium tank M4A1 Sherman with the 76 mm gun in 1:35 scale from Border Model. The kit stands out for its rich contents: it offers a metal as well as a plastic version of the gun barrel, the metal one with the rifling of the bore suggested, workable running gear, individual link tracks and hatches that can be built open or closed. It is completed by photo-etched parts, 3D-printed light guards and a set of American field gear. Take the exact contents from the instructions.
The M4A1 was the version of the famous Sherman with a cast, rounded upper hull, which sets it apart from the welded versions. The 76W variant carried the more powerful 76 mm gun, which coped better with German tanks, and the so-called wet ammunition stowage, that is the storage of the rounds in a liquid jacket. In the event of a hit this reduced the risk of fire and of the ammunition exploding. The Sherman was one of the most important Allied tanks of the closing stage of the Second World War.
The cast hull is on show, so keep its coarser texture and do not sand it away. Assemble and clean up the running gear and the individual link tracks before you close the hull; the workable suspension allows the tracks to sit faithfully. Use thin cement on the plastic, sand the joints after filling and apply a primer. The base is an olive green finish; depth comes from dark washes in the recesses, highlight the edges with a dry brush and dust the underside and the running gear with dust and mud pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
