An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet towed howitzer of 122 mm caliber, the D-30, in the early version, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. It is not a vehicle but an artillery piece, meaning the carriage, the barrel and the wheels. The box contains plastic parts on sprues, fine photo-etched parts and rubber tires; check the exact number of parts on the packaging.
The 122 mm D-30 howitzer was taken into Soviet service in the 1960s. It became famous for its characteristic three-trail carriage, which, once lowered, allowed rapid traverse through a full circle of 360 degrees. It was light enough and easy to handle, yet powerful for long fire missions. The weapon spread to dozens of armies around the world and in many of them it still serves today. The early version differs from the later ones in details of execution, for example the muzzle brake and the layout of the carriage.
Give attention to the movement of the carriage and to seating the barrel correctly, and glue clean joints with thin cement for plastic. Attach the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Once the base color and the varnish are on, emphasize the rivets and the recesses with a dark wash and apply pigments for dust and mud effects to the lower parts of the carriage and the wheels. The model shows up well on a diorama base with a gun crew.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
