About product

T-26 Mod.1931 photo-etched set in 1:35 scale from E.T. Model

A detail set of photo-etched parts in 1:35 scale intended for the plastic kit of the Soviet T-26 light tank in the 1931 pattern version. The metal parts replace the fenders, their flanges and stiffeners, the grilles, the tool brackets, the clamps and other small items that injection-molded plastic cannot make thin enough. On interwar vehicles with richly detailed fenders the effect is particularly marked. The set is not a kit in its own right and the base model is bought separately.

The real subject

The T-26 was a Soviet light tank derived from the British six-ton type taken over under license. The 1931 pattern version still had two separate rotating turrets side by side, each with its own gunner, which followed from the thinking of the time about supporting the infantry with fire to both sides at once. Most of the vehicles carried machine guns in both turrets, and some had a 37 mm gun in one of them. The suspension with leaf springs and eight small road wheels per side became the basis for the whole later family of single-turret T-26 tanks. The twin-turret machines were still committed to action in the early 1940s, but by then they were obsolete.

Building and painting tips

The fenders take the most work. Cut the original plastic ones away first and sand the area flat, and only then glue the photo-etched ones on, otherwise they will not sit flush. Make the folds in a bender, and on long parts check that they are not twisted. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Degrease the metal and spray it with a primer. Interwar green looks better if you lighten it on the upper surfaces and add fine scuffing on the edges and dust on the suspension.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers of interwar and early Soviet vehicles
  • Builders who want to build the twin-turret version of the T-26 accurately
  • More experienced modelers with experience of photo-etched fenders
  • Dioramas from the 1930s and the early 1940s

The package holds photo-etched parts, not a kit of the tank. The base model, glue and paints are not part of the delivery.

FAQ

No. The set holds photo-etched metal parts only. The plastic kit has to be obtained separately.

It had two separate rotating turrets side by side, unlike the later single-turret versions of the T-26.

Cut the plastic ones away, sand the area flat and only then glue the metal ones on. Otherwise the new part will not sit flush.

It makes the work easier mainly on the long fenders. Without one the edges can be formed between two blades or over a steel rule.
