Decals in 1:35 scale from Star Decals. Unlike the sets with unit markings, this one concentrates on technical lettering, that is on the small captions a vehicle carries for the sake of its crew and its maintenance. It is intended for models of the M113 armored personnel carrier.
The M113 is an American tracked armored personnel carrier with a welded hull of aluminum alloy, thanks to which it is markedly lighter than steel and can be carried by air. It entered service at the start of the 1960s, was produced in enormous numbers and spread to dozens of armies. A whole family of derived vehicles arose on its chassis, from command and signals types through to weapon carriers and ambulance versions. That is exactly why a set focused on technical captions is useful: they are common across the versions, whereas unit markings differ.
Technical captions are the smallest thing applied to a model, so it pays to prepare lighting and a magnifier and to work one piece at a time. The base has to be smooth and glossy, otherwise small type will lose its sharpness. Apply the lettering before the patina comes in turn: fine dust will then naturally subdue a freshly applied caption and it will not come across as a sticker. On the vertical surfaces of the rear and on the drop ramp, measure the position off in advance, because that is exactly where the lettering is most visible.
