A set of three resin figures in 1:35 represents the crew of an American Sherman tank in the pattern of the Marine Corps. The PTO marking in the original name is a statement about the Pacific intent of the equipment, that is about how the clothing of the figures looks, not about the contents of the package. It is not a tank kit but an add-on that gives a built model scale and life.
The pattern and the pose
The clothing matches the late pattern of the Marine Corps field uniform. For a modeler that means a lighter, looser cut and pronounced pockets, which carry the play of light and shadow well when painted. The figures are conceived as a group, so they can be placed on one vehicle in the turret, the hatches and on the hull. The exact poses are apparent from the illustration on the packaging.
Wash the castings first in lukewarm water with dish soap, to rid them of the remains of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw, never snap them off, and level the faces after the cut with a file or sandpaper wet and with your breathing protected. Join the parts with cyanoacrylate glue, fill small gaps with filler and sand them down.
Start the painting with a primer. With the Pacific pattern it is rewarding to work with a subdued green and sand palette, which you bring to life by lighting the crests of the folds and with a dark wash in the recesses. Take the camouflage pattern of the helmet covers as a purely painting job: the base first, then softly bounded blotches with a fine brush and finally a unifying fine filter. Paint the skin separately and in calm transitions. At the end knock the gloss back with a matte clear coat and dust the footwear with pigment, so that a figure sits into the setting of a diorama.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
