A scenic accessory for a diorama in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of machinery or a part for a model but a stand-alone object of a scene. A wheelchair is among the equipment that gives a scene a particular action: on its own it suggests a medical support area, a dressing station, a hospital corridor or a civilian setting where somebody is being cared for. In a scene with figures it therefore works as an element that links the figures into an understandable situation.
The accessory suits interior as well as outdoor compositions — at a dressing station, by the building of a medical facility, in a town scene and by a means of transport where boarding is being dealt with. The 1:35 scale is the most widespread for this kind of scene, so the wheelchair goes well with ordinary figures and with vehicles in the same scale. Because it is an object with thin structural elements and with wheels, it looks delicate in a scene, and it is a good idea to give it a place where it will be seen rather than tucking it into a corner.
With objects that have thin frames and spokes, proceed patiently: clean the parts up, try the joints dry and glue in small steps, so that the structure stays level and both wheels seat properly. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts — cyanoacrylate super glue for resin and printed parts, modeling cement for plastic on injection-molded parts. Lay down a filler primer, which will also reveal any flaws. The frame looks good in a subdued metallic shade with a discreet sheen, while the seat and the back look better matte, so that they read as fabric or leather. The detail is added by a thin wash into the joints and a fine dry brush on the edges. Do not skimp on painting the wheels — it is on them that it shows most whether an object inhabits a scene or merely lies on the base.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
