About product

Basic photo-etched set 1:35 for the early-configuration Bergepanther Ausf.A from Voyager Model

Voyager Model divides its Bergepanther sets according to which tool holders the vehicle carried. This variant is meant for the early configuration with the arrangement of holders corresponding to the Panther Ausf.A tank. The distinction matters, because the manufacturer also offers a late version with a different arrangement and the parts are not interchangeable. The set is cut for the Meng SS-015 plastic kit and does not hold the model of the vehicle.

The real subject

The Bergepanther Ausf.A is a recovery vehicle built on the chassis of the Panther medium tank. It had no turret but an open superstructure with a winch, and at the rear a bracing spade against which the vehicle set itself while pulling. The arrangement of the tool holders on the sides and at the rear changed during production according to the production stage of the tank the chassis came from, and it is by them that the individual configurations are distinguished today. For the modeler it is a detail that decides the credibility of a display-case build, because the holders, loops and clamps are clearly visible on the surface of the vehicle.

A dry assembly as insurance

With sets that exist in two variants differing precisely in the arrangement of the holders, it pays to compare the photo-etched parts with the plastic model first and only then to cut. Hold the fret up to the corresponding places on the hull and check the spacings, because on recovery vehicles the holders often differ by only a few millimeters. Next comes a dry test of the bent parts held with tweezers, which will tell you whether enough room is left beneath them. Only when everything sits should you nip the parts off, level the tabs and glue, because cyanoacrylate once set allows no correction. Degrease the whole assembly before painting and spray a thin primer for metal.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of German engineer and support subjects of the Second World War.
  • Modelers building the early configuration of the Bergepanther Ausf.A.
  • More experienced builders used to working with photo-etched parts and small pieces.
  • Display-case and competition builds with the emphasis on faithful holders and clamps.

This is an add-on set, not a model. The basic plastic kit, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

In the arrangement of the tool holders on the hull. The early one corresponds to the Panther Ausf.A tank, the late one to a later production stage, and the parts are not interchangeable.

It is not. The set holds only photo-etched brass parts; the Meng SS-015 plastic kit has to be obtained separately.

Before cutting, hold the fret up to the model and compare the spacings of the holders. The differences tend to be only millimeters.

The number of parts is given in the manufacturer's instructions in the package.
