About product

Photo-etched set 1:35 Tiger I, early form (Voyager Model)

A detail set in photo-etched brass in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Voyager Model, intended for a plastic model of the German heavy tank Tiger I in the early production series. The set is cut for the Border Model BT-010 kit. It is not a model of a vehicle, but an accessory with which the parts of the base kit are replaced or supplemented.

The real subject

The Tiger I was a heavy tank with an 88 mm gun and massive frontal armor. The early production machines differed from the later ones in a row of external features, among them the form of the commander's cupola, road wheels with rubber tire bands, and the additional equipment on the rear of the hull. It is precisely these details that decide whether a finished model matches a particular production series, and that is why sets for the early form differ from sets for the middle and late machines.

Usage tips

On an early Tiger I, photo-etched metal is of the most use on the parts that are meant to be paper-thin in scale: the mesh above the engine compartment, the sheet metal covers, the brackets and the small mounts. Injection molded plastic is always oversized in these places. Cut the parts out with a scalpel, sand the burr down with a fine file and degrease the surface with alcohol, so that the cyanoacrylate glue holds. Line the smallest components up on a surface in advance and pick them up with tweezers with smooth jaws. Glue the mesh above the engine only after the inner surface has been painted, otherwise bare plastic will show through it. Apply a primer for metal before painting.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Tiger I in the early production series in 1:35
  • Builders of the Border Model BT-010 kit
  • Anyone interested in telling the early and the later machines apart faithfully
  • Advanced modelers used to working with thin metal

It is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The name states that it is cut for the Border Model BT-010 kit. With a different kit, reckon with modifications and verify the dimensions beforehand.

The early and the later production series differed in external details, so photo-etched parts for one series need not fit the other.

It is not. It is a set of photo-etched parts, and you buy the model separately.

Degrease it with alcohol and spray on a primer intended for metal. Without a primer, paint flakes off brass on the edges.
