A set of photo-etched parts in thin brass sheet intended to refine a plastic model of the Soviet heavy tank KV-1 in the mod. 1942 version, in 1:35 scale. The manufacturer is Voyager Model. The designation Basic in the name refers to the basic extent of the set, and the letter B to the form which according to the name is supplemented with a gun barrel. It is not a kit of a tank or a finished model, but an accessory that you buy for a plastic model you already own.
The KV-1 was a Soviet heavy tank of the Second World War with markedly thick armor and a 76.2 mm gun. Vehicles from 1942 differed from the earlier series in their strengthened protection and a modified form of the turret. The high weight came at the expense of mobility and of the life of the transmission, which shows on a model among other things in the massive running gear and the coarsely cast hull parts, on which the refinement from photo-etched metal is the most visible.
Photo-etched metal is several times thinner than plastic, so it will replace the thick-walled fenders, mesh and mounts that are inherently oversized in an injected part. Cut the parts off with a scalpel or with photo-etch scissors, sand down the burrs and degrease the surface with alcohol before gluing. Make the bends in a bending tool, or at least between two razor blades, so that the edge is sharp and straight. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; on large surfaces the gel variety helps, as it gives you time to position the part. A primer for metal is advisable before painting, otherwise the paint holds badly on smooth brass. The gun barrel is fitted in place of the plastic part, usually only after the molded raised detail in the turret has been sanded down. The accessory is designed for the Trumpeter 09597 kit.
