This is not a model but a set of photo-etched brass parts. It is bought for a plastic kit the modeler already has and is cut exactly for the molding given in the product name. The M40 was an American 155 mm gun motor carriage, that is a self-propelled gun introduced at the close of the Second World War. It was built on a chassis derived from the M4 medium tank with HVSS suspension, wide tracks and a longer hull, so as to carry the weight of the weapon. The crew compartment was open at the top, and at the rear the machine had a folding bracing spade to take the recoil. Vehicles of this type were used in the postwar years as well.
Preparing the surface is what shows most in the result. Brass comes from the factory carrying grease from the etching process and from fingers, and paint then only appears to hold on it: it will lift off in whole patches during handling. So before building, wash the parts in warm water with a drop of dish soap, rinse them and let them dry, and from then on touch them only with tweezers or in gloves. Once they are glued, spray a thin primer meant for metal, ideally in two light passes with an airbrush rather than one heavy coat. Only onto dry primer should the paint go, again more thinly than on plastic, so that the texture of the photo-etched parts stays apparent.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, which it does not include. The glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
