The canopy masks 1:72 Ki-109 Experimental Interceptor Canopy Mask from Dead Design are for a model of the Japanese heavy interceptor with gun armament.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masks for the glazing of a model of the experimental heavy interceptor Ki-109 in 1:72 scale from the Dead Design brand. According to the name the set is meant for exactly the canopies and glazed areas. The plastic parts of the aircraft are not included.
The Ki-109 arose from modifying the twin-engine bomber Ki-67 Hiryu into a machine capable of attacking American B-29s. A massive 75 mm gun, loaded by hand by its crew, was mounted in the nose, and most of the defensive armament and the bomb bay disappeared from the airframe. Only a few dozen examples were built and there was no time left for results in service. For a modeler it is a type that appears in display cases rarely and immediately catches the eye with the ratio between the size of the fuselage and the caliber of the barrel.
A bomber airframe means far more glazing than on a single-seat fighter: the pilots cockpit, side windows and glazed positions in the fuselage. Tracing that many thin frames by hand takes hours and the differences in the width of the stroke are then visible at first sight. Sprayed frames all have the same width and a sharp edge. Before you start, check that the clear parts are clean and free of fingerprints, because under a mask you can no longer clean them.
