A wooden deck in 1:350 scale for a model of the Japanese Antarctic research ship Soya, cut for the Hasegawa 40080 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A wooden deck overlay for a model in 1:350 scale, cut for the Hasegawa 40080 kit. It replaces the painted plastic deck with real wood, so the grain of the fibers and the division into individual planks show on the model. The surface also changes its shade according to the viewing angle, which is very difficult to imitate with paint. On a ship with an extensive open deck this is the change a viewer notices before anything else.
Soya is a Japanese ship that carried Japanese expeditions to Antarctica in the second half of the 1950s and became the best known Japanese vessel for that work. The designation 1st in the name distinguishes the first form of the ship, that is, her state before the later rebuilds; that is how you tell which version of the kit the deck belongs to.
Before gluing, lay the deck on dry and check whether the cutouts and openings fit the superstructure and the bases of the masts. Check the method of attachment in the instructions, as some decks have an adhesive back. Clear the area on the model of dust and grease in advance, otherwise the joint will not hold. Fit the deck before the fragile superstructure and railings go onto the model, because once they are glued on a large piece can no longer be handled. The finished surface can be unified with a suitable varnish, but make a test on an offcut.
A wooden deck is supplied. The ship kit, paints, varnish and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
