About product

Eduard 1:350 CVN-65 Enterprise PART II, the second part of the photo-etched suite

This pack from the Czech manufacturer Eduard brings together several separately sold photo-etched sets for a model of the American aircraft carrier Enterprise in 1:350 scale in a single box. The second part designation means that it follows on from the separately sold first part of the suite: the sets complement each other rather than overlap. The exact composition is stated on the box and in the instructions; it is an accessory for a model, not a kit.

The real subject

The Enterprise, with the hull designation CVN-65, was the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the world. She entered service at the beginning of the 1960s and remained in active service for over fifty years, which made her one of the longest-serving ships of her kind. Her characteristic features were above all the angular island and the extraordinary length of the hull: even in 1:350 scale she makes a model that needs a display case of its own. On a model this large, photo-etched accessories make the biggest difference: railings, nets, radars and fine structures are necessarily too thick in plastic.

Building and painting tips

Work section by section and fit the photo-etched parts in order from the deck upward, so that finished parts are not damaged by further work. Snip the parts off with a scalpel, make the bends in a bending tool and glue long runs of railing in shorter lengths, so that they do not ripple on you. Apply super glue from a wire in tiny drops. A primer is essential before painting, otherwise paint does not hold on metal; it is more practical to spray railings and nets while they are still on the fret and to touch them up only after they are glued in. On the large gray surfaces of the deck and the sides, discreet accentuation of the panels and slight lightening of the centers of the surfaces work well, so that the model does not look flat.

Who the pack is for

  • Builders of large warship models in 1:350 scale
  • Modelers who already have the first part of the suite and want to continue
  • Experienced builders with experience of extensive photo-etched sets
  • Those who build a model as a long-term display project

An accessory pack, not a ship model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. These are photo-etched accessories for a model; the aircraft carrier kit itself has to be obtained separately.

The parts complement each other and each covers different areas of the model. The order of buying is up to you, but you will get the full effect with both.

It brings together several separately sold photo-etched sets. The particular list is given on the box and in the instructions supplied.

Always over a primer with good adhesion to metal, ideally sprayed while still on the fret, and touched up with a brush after they are glued in.
