About product

MASTER 1:350 SMS Seydlitz — turned barrels with resin mounts

This set from the Polish brand MASTER replaces the complete gun armament of a model of the battlecruiser SMS Seydlitz in 1:350 scale. It contains ten barrels of 280 mm caliber, twelve barrels of 150 mm caliber and eight barrels of 88 mm caliber, together with resin mounts for seating them precisely in the turrets and casemate openings. This is not a model of the ship, but an upgrade accessory for a plastic kit.

The real subject

SMS Seydlitz was a battlecruiser of the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) completed in 1913. It combined heavy armor with high speed and was deployed in operations in the North Sea, including the Battle of Jutland, the largest naval battle of the First World War. The main armament consisted of 280 mm guns in twin turrets, the secondary battery of 150 mm guns and the light armament of 88 mm guns. The numbers of barrels in the set match the composition of the armament of the real subject.

Fitting and tips

Cut the plastic barrels off as close to the turret as possible, sand the remainder flat and carefully widen the hole for the pin of the metal barrel with a micro drill bit in a pin vise. Metal is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or epoxy, not with cement for polystyrene. Before the glue sets, line all the barrels up to the same elevation: barrels turned inconsistently are visible on a finished model at first glance. Wash the mold release agent off the resin mounts and try them dry before gluing. Paint the metal parts only after applying a metal primer, or leave them in their natural shade and just seal them with a matte clear coat.

Who the set is for

  • builders of ship models in 1:350 scale
  • anyone interested in the history of the Imperial German Navy and the ships of the First World War
  • modelers for whom plastic barrels with a parting line are not enough
  • more advanced modelers working with metal and resin

This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a set of replacement barrels and resin mounts that you use on a plastic kit in 1:350 scale you have already bought.

A turned barrel is perfectly straight, has no trace of a mold parting line and has a drilled muzzle. In 1:350 scale that is clearly noticeable.

With cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy. It is advisable to widen the hole in the plastic turret carefully with a micro drill bit first.

You do not, but if you want a uniform shade with the rest of the ship, apply a metal primer first.
