A photo-etched detail set for a model of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz CVN-68 in 1:350 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, marked as the first part.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a ship kit but a set of photo-etched parts with which a model you have already bought is fitted out. Photo-etched sheet makes it possible to replace the elements that cannot be made in a realistic thickness in injection-molded plastic, above all railings, walkways, netting, grilles and various supports. The designation in the name says that this is the first part of the photo-etch for this type of ship, so the set covers only some of the parts needed.
USS Nimitz CVN-68 is the lead ship of the class of the same name of American nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. These are ships with an angled landing deck, catapults, an island superstructure on the starboard side and an extensive flight deck for a mixed carrier air wing. It is precisely the flight deck, its edges and the safety nets that are the places where photo-etched parts make the greatest difference on a model.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel or photo-etch scissors on a hard surface; never break them out. Make the bends in a bender or over the sharp edge of a metal rule. It is advisable to degrease the brass before painting and to coat it with a primer for metals, or the paint will hold badly. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied with a pin in a minimal quantity; on larger parts a glue with a longer setting time helps too. Fit the railings right at the end of the build, after the deck has been painted.
