A publication of the Japanese publisher Komakai from the Ultra Detail Guide series, focused on the MG Metro 6R4 rally car. It is not a kit or a set of parts, but a standalone title for modelers.
The MG Metro 6R4 was the British answer to Group B and went about it differently from most of its rivals. While the others built on forced induction, the 6R4 received a naturally aspirated six-cylinder mounted in the middle of the car and four-wheel drive. That did away with the turbo lag which crews cursed on narrow stages. The body recalled only distantly the city Metro the car formally derived from, as it carried massive wings and markedly flared fenders. The machine made its debut at the British rally at the end of 1985 and finished on the podium. Group B ended before it could fulfill its potential, and the machines then raced rallycross for many years. Its six-cylinder served as the basis of the power unit for the Jaguar XJ220 supercar. A series of cars in milder form was also built for homologation, and these ended up in the hands of private drivers.
The open tail with its visible engine and radiators is the main thing on a model of the 6R4. A title that keeps to a single type helps work out what is visible under the wing and what the cockpit looks like.
