Type 72C Red is the red of the wedge-shaped Lotus 72 single-seater in 1970 season specification, that is of the car whose scheme was made up of red, white and gold.
Responsibility details are not available.
The shade belongs to the Lotus 72 single-seater in the specification marked with the letter C. On it the red made up the front end and the flanks of the body and, together with a white and gold line, created one of the most recognizable schemes in the history of Formula 1.
The 72 changed the shape of racing cars: instead of a cigar-shaped hull came a wedge, the radiators moved from the nose to the flanks and the suspension used torsion bars. In the 1970 season Jochen Rindt won five grands prix with it and became the only driver to take the world title after his death. The design was so far ahead that the car stayed in the field in modified versions for several more seasons, which is exceptional for Formula 1 of that time. That is exactly why a whole range of kits exists for this subject, and each calls for a different layout of the colored areas according to the season it captures.
It is meant for collectors of historic formula cars who put a whole scheme together from several colors and need a red tied to one car and one season. With the 72 itself it pays to check which phase of the season you are building: the wings, the radiator covers and the shape of the front end changed over the year, so the division of the colored areas shifts along with the aerodynamics.
