An accessory resin set in 1:48 scale for the exhaust of the Bell AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter. It is not a model of the helicopter but a replacement for one external part, whose main benefit is a thin edge and an open outlet with visible depth.
The AH-1G is the first production version of the Cobra attack helicopter, which grew out of the design of a transport machine and first flew in the middle of the 1960s. Characteristic are the narrow fuselage with its tandem cockpit, short stub wings with points for armament and the nose turret. Power comes from a single turboshaft engine, whose exhaust discharges in the upper rear part of the fuselage; around the outlet there are usually visible heat marks and discoloration of the metal. It is precisely this part that in injection-molded plastic is usually solved as a shallow hole with a thick wall, which looks unconvincing on a model.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, so that any residue of mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a sharp cutter, and work carefully at the thin edge of the exhaust without snapping it. Sand the marks wet and with breathing protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; try the mating surface dry beforehand. Apply a primer before painting. Darken the inside of the outlet so that it looks deeper, and handle the outside with metal shades graded into heat discoloration. Dirty the surrounding metal around the mouth with a dark wash or with pigment; pigment is a loose powder, so work with it in a way that keeps you from breathing it in.
The set is an accessory for a build, not a stand-alone model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
