A richly equipped plastic model of the American fighter Bell P-39N Airacobra in 1:48 scale from the ProfiPACK line by Eduard. The ProfiPACK edition adds photo-etched parts, painting masks, and Eduard decals to the plastic parts. The package offers markings for aircraft of several users — the American, Soviet, and Italian air forces. Also included is a metal nose weight that balances the aircraft's characteristic tail-heaviness.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra was an American fighter with an unusual layout: the engine sat in the middle of the fuselage behind the pilot and drove the propeller through a shaft, while a cannon was mounted in the propeller hub. The aircraft was one of the first American fighters to have a nose landing gear. The P-39N version was among the later, more capable configurations. Airacobras saw substantial use particularly with the Soviet Air Force, where they were very popular.
The photo-etch and painting masks speed up building the cockpit and spraying the glazing cleanly. We recommend working with thin liquid plastic cement and painting with an airbrush. Do not forget the metal nose weight, or the model will sit down on its tail. Depending on the chosen markings, plan on American olive drab, Soviet schemes, or natural metal; highlight panel lines with a light wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
