About product

Masking set 1:48 Bf 109G-10 MTT

This is a set of self-adhesive masks in 1:48 scale, not a model of an aircraft. The masks are cut to fit the Eduard 84168 kit and one of its marking schemes, so verify before you buy that you have the corresponding model and that you are about to build that very variant. On another kit the shapes need not fit, because the shapes of the transitions, the frames and the surface the mask is laid on differ.

The real subject

The Bf 109G-10 was a late development stage of the G series with a reworked forward fuselage. Three plants produced it in parallel and their machines differ from one another in details that are clearly visible on a model: the shape and the placing of the bulges on the engine cowling, the form of the tail surfaces, the covering of the undercarriage wells and the arrangement of the armament. The abbreviation MTT in the name refers to the version from Messerschmitt production in Regensburg, that is to one of these production lines. That is precisely why masks for the individual variants cannot be interchanged.

Usage tips

The surface has to be smooth, dry and degreased, otherwise the mask will not stick and the paint will creep under. Lift the mask off the backing film with tweezers, lay it in place and press the edges down with a toothpick or a blunt wooden stick. Spray in several very thin coats, as a thick coat will create a step at the edge. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has dried, and pull it back over itself rather than straight up. On larger areas it pays to cover the surroundings with tape or with a masking liquid.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want to spray the markings instead of applying decals
  • Builders who are bothered by the glossy film of a decal on a matte finish
  • Anyone interested in a particular production version of the Bf 109G-10
  • Those who already work with an airbrush and can manage thin coats

The set contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a set of masks, that is an aid for painting. The Bf 109G-10 kit itself has to be bought separately.

It denotes the production version of the Bf 109G-10 from the Messerschmitt plant in Regensburg. The machines of the individual producers differ in details of shape, which is why masks are not interchanged between versions.

No. The masks are cut for the Eduard 84168 kit and one of its marking schemes. On another model the shapes and the spacing need not match.

Degrease the surface, press the mask down around its whole perimeter and spray in several very thin coats. A thick coat of paint will create a step at the edge.
