This resin set from Quickboost, a brand of the Czech maker Aires, brings faithfully cast exhaust stubs for a model of the German twin-engine Messerschmitt Bf 110G-2 heavy fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, replacing the solid plastic exhausts with a casting of finer shape and suggested openings. Both engine nacelles gain a more realistic look and take exhaust staining more easily.

The real subject

The Messerschmitt Bf 110G was a late development of the German twin-engine heavy fighter, powered by more capable Daimler-Benz DB 605 inverted V12 engines. It proved itself mainly as a night fighter in the defense of German airspace in the second half of the Second World War.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with plastic cement. Test the fit dry before painting, as resin may need a little cleaning up.
