A set of 3D-printed parts from Eduard for a model of the carrier-based multirole Boeing Super Hornet in 1:48 scale. It replaces the plastic engine exhaust nozzles with parts that have a thin wall and fine detail both inside and out. According to the name the set can be used for the single-seat and the two-seat version alike. It is not an airplane model, but a set of parts for a plastic kit you have already bought.
On modern jets the nozzles are the most conspicuous place at the tail end and at the same time the part where plastic is always a compromise: the wall has to be thick in order to be injection molded, so the lip of the nozzle comes across as a pipe rather than thin sheet metal. A printed replacement solves that problem and additionally holds the detail of the segments and the actuating links. The nozzles can also be arranged in various positions, which markedly changes the look of the tail end on parked aircraft.
The Boeing F/A-18E and F/A-18F Super Hornet are the single-seat and two-seat variants of the US Navy's carrier-based multirole aircraft. Compared with the original Hornet the type has an enlarged airframe, reworked leading-edge extensions and a pair of General Electric F414 engines. The nozzles of both versions are identical, which explains why the set covers both.
A Zoom set is a smaller, pre-painted selection from a full photo-etched set; a full photo-etched set is more extensive; masks are self-adhesive templates for the glazing and the wheels; bundle sets bring several sets together in one package; decal sets hold markings only. This item is a set of printed parts aimed at one particular assembly on the model.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Separate them from the supporting structure with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw and sand down the remains of the supports with your breathing protected. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). For painting the nozzles, metallic shades applied in layers and complemented by dark and brownish casts work well — a purely silver surface looks lifeless. Darken the inside of the nozzle before you join it to the fuselage.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
