A 3D-printed kit for experienced modelers, the French attack aircraft Breguet Bre.693 AB2 in 1:48 scale from MH models, in the striking red and yellow striped markings of the air force of the Vichy government.
Responsibility details are not available.
A 3D-printed (resin) kit for experienced modelers in 1:48 scale from MH models, a smaller Czech producer that builds its kits by direct 3D printing rather than by conventional injection molding. The package is completed by a vacuum-formed canopy and decals for the markings of the air force of the Vichy government. This is not a mainstream kit off the pile: it is a specialist model of an unusual subject that calls for a different building technique from an ordinary plastic kit.
The Breguet Bre.693 was a French twin-engine attack aircraft of the late 1930s, developed from the Bre.690 family. The designation AB2 comes from the French Assaut Bombardement Biplace, a two-seat attack bomber. It was powered by Gnome-Rhone 14M radial engines, and over a hundred had been completed by the time of the Battle of France in 1940. They were used against advancing ground troops, often at heavy loss.
After the defeat of France in 1940 part of the air arm stayed in service with the Vichy government, which was allowed to maintain limited air forces. Its aircraft carried conspicuous red and yellow striped markings, the purpose of which was to set them unambiguously apart from Allied machines. This finish is the most striking visual feature of the real aircraft and the reason this boxing exists; we state it as a historical and visual fact, without political judgment.
Building a 3D-printed model has rules of its own. First wash the resin residue off the parts, carefully cut off the supports and clean the faces up. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with cement for plastic. When sanding resin, protect your airways, ideally sand wet. Cut the vacuum-formed canopy out with a margin and sand it down to the line. A primer before painting is essential; paint holds badly on resin without an undercoat. The stripes are rewarding work for masking and an airbrush: first the yellow as the lighter base, then masking and the red.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit (3D print). Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
