The designation Ultimate Edition suggests that this is an extended release; the particular make-up of the package is stated on the box. 1:700 is the standard scale for ship models and makes it possible to build a whole fleet side by side.
Kongo was a Japanese battlecruiser built in Britain by Vickers and completed shortly before the First World War. She was the last large surface unit of the Imperial Japanese Navy ordered abroad; her sister ships were already built at home. In 1914 she still had her original configuration with a tall funnel arrangement and with her armament in twin turrets, that is, a form markedly different from the later reconstructions she went through in the interwar period, which gave her a completely different superstructure and silhouette.
With ship models in 1:700 scale the order of the work decides everything: finish the hull and the decks first, and only then fit the small superstructures, the masts and the boat cranes. If you are building the full-hull variant, prepare a stand; with the waterline variant, setting it into an imitation of the sea surface looks good too. Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats and paint the small parts while they are still on the sprue. It pays to shade the deck areas with a dark wash, which will bring out the engraved detail. Glue any photo-etched railings on with super glue at the very end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
