1:48 Bristol Beaufighter Mk.X porcupine exhaust is a resin exhaust set from the Quickboost brand: a replacement for the characteristic tubular exhausts of the radial engines for a Beaufighter model in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a resin accessory from the Quickboost brand, not an aircraft kit. It replaces the exhaust pipes of the radial engines in the execution nicknamed the porcupine for its cluster of protruding stubs. The casting solves what a plastic mold manages only with difficulty: individual exhaust pipes emerging from the cowling at slightly different angles, with open mouths and with no mold seam. On the model this is a visually exposed spot right beside the main mass of the engine nacelle, so the difference shows even from the usual distance at which a display case is looked at.
The Bristol Beaufighter was a British twin-engine two-seat aircraft with Bristol Hercules radial engines, which in the Second World War found its role as a heavy fighter and attack machine. The Mk.X version was the most numerous and it served mainly with Coastal Command for attacks against shipping. The arrangement of the exhausts on the Beaufighter changed during production according to the engine variant and changes to the cowling, which for the modeler is the most common reason why a plastic part does not agree with photographs of a particular machine.
Exhausts belong among the parts that are painted differently from the rest of the model, so it pays to prepare them to one side. After cutting the casting block off and washing them free of mold release, spray them with a dark base and only then build the shades of scale on it: rusty, brown and gray tones applied in layers, supplemented with a dry brush or with pigments into the texture of the surface. Darken the mouths of the pipes so that they do not look flat. Glue them into the model with super glue only at the end of the build, after the nacelles have been varnished, because otherwise you risk breaking the fine stubs off while handling it.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and unassembled. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package. It is not a standalone model, because it requires a corresponding kit in 1:48 scale.
