A kit of the Australian CAC Wirraway aircraft in 1:48 scale, focused on its service in training and in combat.
Responsibility details are not available.
The CAC Wirraway is a two-seat aircraft of Australian manufacture, derived from an American training design of the NA-16 family. It was built by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation and was among the first series-built aircraft of the Australian aviation industry. It is powered by a radial piston engine, the cockpit is laid out in tandem and the whole type was created as a trainer able to handle ordinary auxiliary duties as well.
The Wirraway did the bulk of its work in pilot training. When the war came closer to Australia, however, the machines had to take on tasks they were not built for, that is reconnaissance and attacks on ground targets. This divided career makes the type a rewarding subject: one and the same aircraft can be built in a training or a combat configuration, and among the usual fighters and bombers it does not get lost in a display case.
The glazing of the long tandem cockpit is the most visible thing on the finished model. It pays to mask carefully, to glue with cement meant for clear parts and to spray the canopy frame first in the interior color and only then in the external shade. Wash and degrease the model before painting. The particular procedure and the color schemes are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The set will please anyone interested in Second World War aviation away from the main theaters, as well as modelers who collect training aircraft. Paints, glue and other materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
