The 1:48 Empty cartridges 12.7x108 set is a modeling accessory, not a kit. It contains miniatures of empty, that is spent, cartridge cases of 12.7x108 mm caliber in 1:48 scale. A little heap of cases under the mount of a machine gun, on the roof of a vehicle or under the open gun bay of an aircraft is a classic detail that gives a scene the impression of activity just ended.
The 12.7x108 mm round is Soviet heavy ammunition introduced in the 1930s together with the DShK heavy machine gun. It was also used by the Berezin UB aircraft machine gun and later by the NSV and Kord machine guns on the mounts of vehicles and helicopters. Do not confuse it with the Western 12.7x99 mm, or .50 BMG: the bullet caliber is the same, but the case is shorter, so the modeling part is different too. That is exactly why both variants are separate items.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a cutting mat, cut off any gates or supports left from production and sand the surface back. Paint the cases in a brass shade and knock it back at once: spent pieces are dulled and sooted. A darker wash at the mouth, a fine pigment at the bottom and a slightly irregular arrangement are the three things that decide the credibility. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue; on a soft surface a drop of thin PVA glue will serve.
The set is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
